The Old Venetian Port of Chania is an open air promenade that was built in the 1300's. This vibrant port is home to countless shops on winding side streets, waterfront restaurants, and the historic lighthouse which sits at the harbor entrance. Accessible by taxi, ATV, or bus, it is about 20 minutes from Platanias, and is best enjoyed in the late afternoon before having dinner in one of the many restaurants that look out over the port.

One of our favorite restaurants, Drakiana, features excellent Cretan food and a magical nature-oriented outdoor setting. It is a 10-minute drive from Platanias and is a highly recommended spot to check out for dinner.

If you have extra time during your trip we highly recommend spending a few days exploring some of the other Greek islands such as Milos or Paros which are accessible by ferry or a short flight.
